Where Is the Hide Photo Button on iPhone?
Find the Hide button in the current iPhone Photos app, hide one or multiple pictures, restore the Hidden album, and fix the most common reasons the option seems missing.
The Fastest Way to Find Hide
- Open Apple's Photos app.
- Press and hold the photo or video.
- Tap Hide in the menu that appears.
- Tap Hide Photo or Hide Video to confirm.
You can also open the item full-screen, tap the More button, and choose Hide. Apple may adjust the icon position between iOS releases, but the long-press method is the clearest route when you cannot find the action bar.
How to Hide Several Photos at Once
- Open Photos and tap Select.
- Choose every photo or video you want to hide.
- Open the More menu or action menu.
- Tap Hide and confirm the number of selected items.
Hiding several photos moves all of them to the same built-in Hidden album. It does not create separate secret albums for different people, projects, or document types.
Where the Hidden Photos Go
Apple's current support instructions place the Hidden album under Photos, Collections, and Utilities. Open it with Face ID, Touch ID, or the iPhone passcode.
If the Hidden album itself is not visible, go to Settings, Apps, Photos and turn on Show Hidden Album. Hiding that album from the Photos interface adds discretion, but it does not delete the hidden media.
If the Hide Option Seems Missing
- Use Apple Photos: a picture displayed inside Messages, Files, a browser, or another app may show a different menu.
- Try long-press: press and hold the actual photo thumbnail instead of searching every toolbar icon.
- Open the More menu: when viewing the item full-screen, look for the ellipsis or More action.
- Update iOS: menu placement and Hidden album protection can differ on older system versions.
- Save the image first: media that has not been added to your Photos library cannot use the Photos Hidden album.
The Hide Button Is Not a Private Vault Button
The built-in Hide action changes where Apple Photos displays the file. It does not export that file from the Photos library into a new encrypted container. Hidden photos remain part of the library, and with iCloud Photos enabled their hidden state syncs to your other Apple devices.
If you want photos moved into encrypted in-app storage with a separate passcode, Face ID, auto-lock, intruder capture, and no server upload, use Hide Photo. Verify the imported vault copy before deleting the Photos original.
