Your first session

Start with one useful task

  1. 01

    Start in the service's settings

Open the account's official security settings and choose authenticator-based two-factor authentication. The service supplies the enrollment QR code or secret key; the app cannot invent one for an existing account.

  2. 02

    Add the account and test

Scan the QR code, import a compatible saved QR image, or enter the setup key. Enter a current code back into the service to finish enrollment. Keep automatic device time enabled if codes are rejected.

  3. 03

    Keep a recovery route

Store each service's recovery codes somewhere you can reach without this phone. Test the supported transfer or backup process before erasing your old device.

Choose for your needs

When Authenticator App 2FA fits

A service offers an authenticator QR code or setup key and you want a separate iPhone app to generate time-based login codes. Keep the setup key and recovery plan under your control.

When another option may help

If your employer specifically requires Microsoft Authenticator, Okta or another approval app, follow its enrollment instructions. A general TOTP app does not automatically replace push approvals, passkeys or an organization's device policy.

Before you download

A few practical details for your first session.

Keep recovery codes outside the phone that holds your authenticator. Review the supported backup or sync process before replacing a device.

Questions about Authenticator App 2FA

Does Authenticator App 2FA work without internet?

Yes. Standard TOTP codes are calculated on the device and can work without an internet or mobile connection.

Can I import a 2FA QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. The app supports importing a compatible authenticator-enrollment QR image from the photo library.

What should I save before changing phones?

Confirm your backup or sync setup, save each service's recovery codes, and verify codes on the new phone before erasing the old one.

Where can I download Authenticator App 2FA?

Authenticator App 2FA is available for iPhone on the App Store.

Can this app replace my work authenticator?

Only if your organization's service permits a standard TOTP authenticator. Employer-specific push approvals, passwordless enrollment and device policies may require the named app.

Can an authenticator recover my account by itself?

No. Recovery depends on the service's recovery codes and account-recovery process. Keep an independent recovery route before relying on codes stored on one phone.
